

Established in 1960 and inaugurated by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture & Technology (GBPUAT) is India’s first land-grant agricultural university, located in Pantnagar, Uttarakhand. Spread over 12,661 acres, the university played a pivotal role in India’s Green Revolution, offering innovative solutions in high-yield crops, irrigation, and pest management. Developed with support from the University of Illinois, GBPUAT integrates education, research, and extension through its 11 multidisciplinary colleges and outreach programs. Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture & Technology (GBPUAT) has played a pivotal role in India’s Green Revolution. It has developed over 350 high-yielding crop varieties, including rice (Pant Dhan series) and wheat (UP series), known for their productivity and pest resistance.The university has made significant strides in hybrid seed development, IPM, soil health, and farm mechanization. Its contributions in horticulture, animal husbandry, and protected cultivation have also enhanced agricultural sustainability.Through collaborations with ICAR, World Bank, DFID, and others, GBPUAT has advanced research in climate-resilient farming and water-saving techniques. With 500+ annual publications and multiple technology transfers, it remains a leader in agri-research and innovation.
Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture & Technology (GBPUAT) spans 12,661 acres, making it one of Asia’s largest agricultural campuses. It houses advanced laboratories for biotechnology, genetics, soil science, and plant pathology. The central library provides access to over 3 lakh books, journals, and digital resources, supporting academic and research excellence.
Modern smart classrooms, high-speed internet, and a well-equipped Computer Centre enable seamless digital learning. Practical training is ensured through model dairy and livestock units, along with a Farm Machinery Training Centre for hands-on mechanization experience.
The university hospital offers 24/7 medical care, and hostel facilities are available separately for boys and girls. On-campus amenities include residential quarters, mess services, banking, postal services, shopping areas, and recreational zones.Agro-industrial units help students engage in value-addition processes for cereals, dairy, and horticulture.
