“A will and desire of farming is more important than farming expertise” — Mr. Vinay Anand
Focus Agritech had the opportunity to interact with Mr. Vinay Anand, co-founder of Arjate Farms. A visionary in agritech, Mr. Anand saw the potential for transformation in farming, leading to the creation of Arjate Farms. With an MBA from the University of Wales, he applies management principles to reform India’s agriculture sector.
Since 2021, Arjate Farms has advanced its Farming as a Service (FaaS) model, focusing on Agri Consulting and Agri Asset Management to democratize farming. Operating in 60-70 villages via a Hub and Spoke model, Arjate supports farmers, landowners, and investors with turnkey solutions, including greenhouse structures, precision irrigation, and digital farm management.
While no specific funding was reported for 2023-2024, Arjate likely operates on angel or pre-revenue funding, aligning with India’s $24B agritech opportunity. The company’s Farmer Experience Centres promote modern practices, and its CSR initiatives empower women in food processing. Arjate’s focus on sustainable, technology-driven agriculture supports India’s projected $580.82B agriculture market by 2028, with a 4.9% CAGR.
Focus Agritech: Arjate Farms aspires to be India’s preferred FaaS company. How did you develop this idea?
Mr. Vinay Anand: Arjate Farms operates in Agri Consulting and Agri Asset Management, addressing two challenges: lack of farming expertise for interested individuals and limited access to modern techniques for farmers. Our FaaS model enables anyone to manage farming—from seed selection to market sales—via our portal, bridging these gaps.
Focus Agritech: What’s the value proposition of your Agri Consulting and Agri Asset Management?
Mr. Vinay Anand: We offer a complete package, handling seed selection, farmer allocation, machinery, digital monitoring, and market access. Our Farmer Experience Centres educate farmers on modern practices, provide inputs like biofertilizers, and simplify sales, making farming accessible to all.
Focus Agritech: What role should government regulators play in sustainable, technology-driven agriculture?
Mr. Vinay Anand: The government should focus on affordability and accessibility, motivating and regulating to elevate farmers’ lifestyles. Supporting digital transformation can unlock agriculture’s potential to make India a global leader.
Focus Agritech: Agriculture showed resilience during the pandemic. What’s the future with emerging agritech companies?
Mr. Vinay Anand: Agriculture is unstoppable, driven by rising food demand. Arjate Farms has seen 100-120% YoY growth, and we expect the sector to flourish, enhancing visibility and farmer prosperity.
Focus Agritech: How can programs like Digital India drive digital readiness in agriculture?
Mr. Vinay Anand: Digital India has massive potential, but farmers need onboarding to new platforms. Collective efforts from government, enterprises, and startups should focus on awareness and farmer-centric solutions to transform lives.
Focus Agritech: What are Arjate Farms’ CSR initiatives?
Mr. Vinay Anand: Our Hub and Spoke model in 60-70 villages emphasizes Agri Skill development and mechanization. We prioritize sustainable growth, benefiting farmers, landowners, and women through food processing roles.
Focus Agritech would like to thank Mr. Vinay Anand for sharing his diverse thoughts on the state of Indian Agriculture, Immense possibilities for the future and Arjate’s vision to build a sustainable future for the farmers. We wish him the very best for his future endeavours and would continue to collaborate with the firm to bring ‘Digital Transformation in India’.
