ICAR is the largest network of agricultural research

Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is the largest network of agricultural research and education institutes in the world, established under the Department of Agricultural Research and Education, Ministry of Agriculture. It is the autonomous body to coordinate agricultural Education and Research in India. Under its purview, ICAR has 4 Deemed Universities, 65 ICAR Institutions, 14 National Research Centres, 6 National Bureaus, 13 Directorates/Project Directorates and several Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI).

ICAR is actively pioneering cutting edge technologies to revolutionize Indian Agricultural arena. It has over 50 mobile applications with utility ranging from Horticulture, Animal husbandry, Soil Health and training and advisory in various aspects of cultivation. It also published an Integrated Mobile App named KISAAN (Krishi Integrated Solution for Agri Apps Navigation) for Farmers of the country with interface in 12 Indian Languages. It has focused on the grassroots level to implement the technologies and key findings from its R&D wing. They actively organize Frontline Demonstrations (FLD) to demonstrate the potential of newly released production technologies on the farmers’ fields and train the rural youth and farmers.

The collaborations of ICAR go beyond national boundaries. DARE-ICAR coordinates with International partners through instruments like MOU and Work plans signed with various International organisations, Foreign Universities and institutions. Various scholarships and fellowships are also provisioned for exchange programs for students.

The primary emphasis of this organisation has been to assist Indian farmers with cutting edge technology.
