5 Good Things You Need To Know About Biodiesel Association Of India
January 6, 2021The Biodiesel Association of India (BDAI) is a national organization which is a non-profit body that serves as the coordinating body for marketing, research, and development for the biofuel business in India. India needs to encourage biofuels, especially Biodiesel, to ensure sustainable agricultural growth, rural development, energy security, and equal opportunity for the masses with overall environmental protection.
The Biodiesel Association of India (BDAI’s) membership comprises UCO Aggregators, Biodiesel manufacturers, Feedstock Plantation Organizations, Biodiesel suppliers, fuel marketers and distributors, and technology providers.
Vision
To pursue and assist stakeholders in developing enabling policies that will increase the use of biofuels in the country.
Mission
– To achieve a 5% biodiesel blend in a diesel by 2030
– Biodiesel is a methyl ester of long-chain fatty acids with properties similar to diesel fuel. It is a green and clean fuel derived from the transesterification or acid esterification of vegetable oils or fats.
– By converting wastes such as stearine, acid oils, and slugs from local vegetable oil refineries, the industry helps to boost regional economic growth. By 2022, the RUCO mission has the potential to generate 18,000 Cr in industrial opportunities.
Challenges faced by BioDiesel Association
– Almost 83,000 people die premature deaths annually due to air pollution
– About 90,000 crores is lost to the general public annually regarding respiratory health-related issues, loss of opportunity, human productivity and days off, etc.
– Green fuel policy is not being implemented.
– Unfriendly taxation policies that discourage the use of biofuels.
Solutions
The Biodiesel Association of India encourages biofuels, especially Biodiesel and compressed biogas. It assures sustainable agricultural growth, rural development, energy security, and equal opportunity for the masses with environmental protection. The Biodiesel Association of India (BDAI) exists solely to promote the common economic interests of individuals interested in advancing the use of Biodiesel as a fuel or in other applications. Also, this fuel additive meets BIS standards for wider application and safer use.
To advance the common interests, the BDAI will give membership on a non-discriminatory basis, any industry member or supporter who meets the member requirements. Whether one wants to be a producer of Biodiesel or is a company that supports the biodiesel industry through the provision of goods and services or simply the BDAI, which promotes Biodiesel, has a lot to offer. BDAI’s membership comprises Used Cooking Oil (UCO) aggregators, biodiesel manufacturers, feedstock plantation organizations, biodiesel suppliers, fuel marketers, distributors, and technology providers.
Value Proposition and Key Differentiator of Biodiesel Association of India
– Biodiesel is less polluting than fossil fuel-based diesel and more conducive for automobiles due to higher lubrication and calorific strength
– Railways can use Biodiesel to complement the diesel that is generally used to run the engines,
– Biofuels can help reduce import dependency on crude oil. They can contribute to a cleaner environment, generate additional farmer income, and create rural jobs.
– When compared with diesel-powered engines, Biodiesel-powered engines have been shown to deliver similar torque and horsepower. Also, Biodiesel has a higher cetane rating, which can improve starting and reduce smoke emissions ∙ The industry converts byproducts like stearine, acid oils, and slugs from local vegetable oil refineries, thereby contributing to regional economic growth. The RUCO mission has the potential to create an industrial opportunity of 18000 Cr by the year 2022.
Using biodiesel has many benefits like:
– Biodiesel is a clean-burning fuel.
– It does not have any toxic emissions like mineral diesel.
– It does not require modifications to a diesel engine to be used.
– It has reduced emissions compared to petroleum diesel fuel.
– It has lower toxicity compared to petroleum diesel fuel.
– It has a very high flash point of 130 0C & it is safe to handle compared to petroleum diesel fuel.
IS15607-2016 quality parameters govern Biodiesel quality.
– Biodiesel is bio-degradable.
Looking Ahead
The Biodiesel Association of India aims to pursue and assist stakeholders with enabling policies that could proliferate biofuel usage in the country. The target of the association is to achieve a 5 percent blending of Biodiesel in a diesel by 2030. Learn more from: http://www.bdai.org.in/
