Introduction

Kheyti is an Indian agritech startup company that strives to make farming predictable, sustainable, and profitable for small farmers. Through its first flagship product, “Greenhouse-in-a-Box,” it has built a low-cost, efficient, and climate-resistant system ideal for small farms. It has installed smart greenhouse technology within the box, ongoing support, and provides a one-stop-shop solution to drive productivity and stabilize the income of India’s poorest farmers.

Tackling Agricultural Challenges

India’s smallholder growers face gargantuan-scale agri-vulnerabilities—ranging from random climate and pest incidents to being excluded from access to prevailing infrastructure. Together, they contribute to insecure yields, financial risk, and climate shock exposure. Kheyti addresses such ingrained issues by way of low-cost canopy of defense farming, which protects crops from outside risk, maximizes resource utilization, and provides necessary input from sowing to sale.

Key Offerings

Kheyti’s holistic approach is centered around empowering small-scale farmers through sustainable innovation:

  • Greenhouse-in-a-Box: A cost-effective, modular greenhouse for small farms, the product consumes up to 90% less water and is able to raise output by up to 7 times even under poor conditions.
  • End-to-End Farmer Support: Kheyti not only provides infrastructure. It offers finance facilitation, input supply, agronomic training, and continuous crop advisory to help farmers maximize the potential of their greenhouse.
  • Climate-Smart Protection: The greenhouse shields crops from too much heat, rain, and pest epidemics, enabling stable yields and risk mitigation—rendering agriculture more predictable.
  • Market Linkages: Through linking farmers with credible buyers, Kheyti provides farmers with a fair price and do not get cheated in their local markets.

Through this integrated model, Kheyti empowers farmers to not just grow more, but grow smarter—with lower input costs and higher income certainty.

Real Impact

Kheyti’s climate-smart solution is already transforming lives across more than 1,000 farms in India. Farmers who have employed the Greenhouse-in-a-Box have seen 2x increases in income, enhanced resilience to adverse weather, and lowered reliance on chemical inputs and groundwater. In its vision of scaling impact, Kheyti expects to touch 50,000 farmers by 2027, creating a ripple effect of rural wealth and sustainability.

Success Story

Lakshmi Devi, a Telangana smallholder farmer, experienced pest attacks and errant monsoons that typically led to loss of crops. She began cultivating vegetables throughout the year under protection from extreme weather conditions after embracing Kheyti’s Greenhouse-in-a-Box. Lakshmi was transformed into a village climate-resilient agriculture champion after doubling the revenue of her household through the intervention of Kheyti’s agronomy team and market access.

Lessons for Agri-Startups

Kheyti’s journey offers powerful insights for emerging agritech entrepreneurs:

  • Design for Smallholders: Innovations that work within the constraints of small land size and capital access can unlock massive grassroots adoption.
  • Bundle Products with Services: Infrastructure alone isn’t enough—continuous support builds trust and ensures success.
  • Climate Adaptation is Key: Solving climate risk through protective farming tools is increasingly vital for long-term farmer livelihoods.
  • Human-Centric Approach: Deep engagement with farmer communities drives not just adoption but real behavioral change and loyalty.
  • Scalability through Simplicity: A modular and replicable model ensures that even remote villages can be onboarded quickly and effectively.
