Founded in 1988 as a commodity trading business, Adani group is an Indian Multinational Conglomerate with the flagship company Adani Enterprises Limited (previously Adani Exports Limited). With an annual turnover of over US $ 13 Billion and business operations in 50 countries, Adani Group is India’s biggest port developer and operator managing ten ports and terminals. They have a strong presence in areas of energy, resources, logistics, agribusiness, real estate, financial services, defence and aerospace.

Adani group has a deep footprint in Agricultural technology through Adani Agri Logistics Limited (AALL) founded in 2007. They have strong expertise in bulk handling, storage and transportation (distribution) of food grains, and in providing an end-to-end bulk supply chain solution to Food Corporation of India (FCI) and various state governments. AALL is known to revolutionize the food storage domain through the first modern grain storage infrastructure developed for Food Corporation of India in 2007. With a total storage capacity of 10 lakh Tonnes, 5.5 lakh tonnes are reserved with FCI while the rest would be utilised by other state agencies.

How Adani Group is adding value in Agriculture

Adani Group has also instituted India’s largest integrated apple supply chain facility with ultra-modern storage infrastructural support through Adani Agri Fresh Limited (AAFL). AAFL has been serving customers globally by wholesale and distribution of fresh fruits and vegetables. Over 17,000 farmers are direct beneficiaries of AAFL’s business model. AAFL proudly boasts of its state of art pack house facility equipped with a technology driven system that ensures only the best product passing the most stringent quality standards reaches the customers.

In March 2020, when the entire nation went into complete lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic, Adani Agri Logistics Limited (AALL), dispatched 30,000 metric tonnes of food grains tapping into the demand for critical food supplies. It benefitted over 25,000 farmers directly, on the top of ensuring food availability for the nation. Adani Group’s strong agri-logistics presence has been instrumental in implementing Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana (PMGKAY), a welfare scheme to distribute 5 kg food grains free of cost to all the National Food Security Act (NFSA) beneficiaries for three months. Times like these have re-emphasized the need for a strong technological agro-infrastructure and how private players can be game changers in the bid to ensure food security.

FocusAgritech’s Outlook

Role of Adani Group in the recent times of the pandemic is a testimony to the fact that a strong private partnership can make a big difference in agricultural space. Dedicated arms of Adani Group like AAFL and AALL indicate the significance of agi-tech in India’s growth story and how a business can be profitable through technological investments in Agricultural space.
