Introduction

Nurture.farm, founded by Pranav Tiwari and Dhruv Sawhney in Bengaluru in 2020, is a complete-stack digital-agriculture platform to enhance farmer resilience and sustainability. With more than 2.5 million farmers on board and coverage of services in 2.5 million acres, the platform combines agri-input e-commerce, precision mechanization, AI-based advisory, traceable output markets, carbon-credit schemes, and innovative insurance schemes. Its mission: to build an open, technology-driven ecosystem from pre-sowing to post-harvest.

Tackling Agricultural Challenges

Farmers in India often face rising input costs, weather unpredictability, poor supply-chain connectivity, and lack of institutional support. Nurture.farm addresses these through its integrated approach: providing quality inputs via nurture.retail, mechanized farm services, AI advisors, carbon-incentivized sustainability (nurture.sustain), output traceability (nurture.trade), and automatic insurance (KAVACH) via partners like HDFC ERGO and SBI General.

Key Offerings

  • nurture.retail: Online agri-input marketplace with credit options for 40,000+ retailers.
  • Mechanization services: Farm operations like spraying and harvesting, delivered via a 12,000-strong rural gig workforce.
  • Crop advisory & AI tools: Support across the crop cycle, including pest alerts and soil services.
  • nurture.sustain: Carbon-credit programs for practices like stubble decomposition.
  • KAVACH insurance: Weather-triggered payouts up to ₹500/acre for unseasonal rain—no farmer claim required.
  • nurture.trade: Traceable output marketplace ensuring quality and fair pricing.

Real Impact

Within two years, Nurture.farm has engaged 2.5 million farmers, serviced 2.5 million acres, and built a gig economy of 12,000 rural service providers . Sustainability programs have helped farmers reduce methane emissions by 50% in paddy and avoided over a million tonnes of CO₂. Insurance features reached 30,000+ farmers within weeks of KAVACH launch.

Success Story

Paddy farmers using nurture.farm’s bio-decomposer spray avoided crop residue burning, reduced soil disease risk, accelerated field readiness by 20 days, improved soil quality, and earned carbon-credit revenues. Another case: rapid uptake of AI advisory led to better sowing decisions, higher yields, and minimized input expenses—empowering farmers with timely ecosystem support .

Lessons for Agri-Startups

  • Integrate all services: inputs, advisory, finance, mechanization, output and sustainability.
  • Build gig economies in rural areas to bridge the digital divides and deliver services.
  • Partner with insurers in embedding tools for risk mitigation.
  • Introduce carbon credits in farming to stimulate behavioral change for climate-positive practice.
  • Farmer-centered, data-driven interventions: Trust and transformation.
