Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) is an export promotion organization working along the Ministry of Commerce & Industries, Government of India. It is authorized with the duty of advancement and expansion of the export of its scheduled goods. Under the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority Act voted for by the Parliament in the month of December of 1985, the organisation was established.

• Fruits, Vegetables and their Products.
• Meat and Meat Products.
• Poultry and Poultry Products.
• Dairy Products.
• Confectionery, Biscuits and Bakery Products.
• Honey, Jaggery and Sugar Products.
• Cocoa and its products, chocolates of all kinds.
• Alcoholic and Non-Alcoholic Beverages.
• Cereal and Cereal Products.
• Groundnuts, Peanuts and Walnuts.
• Pickles, Papads and Chutneys.
• Guar Gum.
APEDA’s key functions
• Progress of industries involving the scheduled products for distribution by way of offering financial aid or otherwise for undertaking reviews and viability studies, partaking in enquiry capital through joint undertakings and subsidy arrangements.
• Record-keeping of persons as exporters of the products on sum of such fees as might be prearranged.
• Setting of ideals and conditions for the products for the purpose of exports.
• Conducting inspection of meat and meat products in butchery houses, processing units, storage grounds, transportations or other places where such products are kept or handled for the purpose of safeguarding the quality.
• Improvement in packaging of the scheduled products.
• Improvement in marketing of the products outside the country.
• Advancement of export-oriented manufacture and growth of the products.
• Gathering of statistics from the proprietors of factories or establishments involved in the supply chain or export of the scheduled products.
• Collection of information regarding any matter related to the scheduled products and publication of the statistics so collected or of any percentages thereof or excerpts therefrom.
• Training growers in various aspects of the industries in regard to the said product.
• Care in regard to floriculture products as well as herbal and medicinal plants as prescribed.
• In addition to this, APEDA has been assigned with the accountability to monitor import of sugar.
Looking Ahead
APEDA has added 135 laboratories to present 51 documented laboratories to allow exporters to have an easy admission to the laboratories for testing of exports. Laboratory testing facilities are crucial in the Agri export supply chain. With this expansion, APEDAs network of laboratories has touched 186 laboratories across the nation states.
For growing the laboratory network more, the authority has taken a policy decision to streamline the recognition of labs. It has been agreed that the NABL accredited laboratories shall be documented by APEDA. They will also be added in the network of APEDA recognition laboratories.
